PREP (Pre-Registration Engagement Project)

The PREP (Pre-Registration Engagement Project) online modules will teach you how to use App State's online course registration system and how to determine what classes to take in your first semester based on your intended major, transfer credits, test scores and more.

The PREP course will open for incoming students for Summer and Fall 2024 on May 2, 2024 at 9 am. 

PREP opens May 2, 2024 at 9 am.

To access the PREP online modules and quiz, you will need to use your App State username and password to log into AsULearn Projects, App State's virtual classroom space. Select "Enroll Me" to self-enroll in the course.

PREP Steps

1. Register for Orientation

You must be registered for Orientation before you can access the PREP (Pre-Registration) modules.

2. Complete all PREP modules

PREP (Pre-Registration Engagement Project) is a series of online modules that will explain Appalachian's academic requirements and processes. It will teach you:

  • how to use our online course registration system
  • how to determine what classes to take in your first-semester based on your intended major
  • how to understand transfer credit, test scores and more.

PREP opens May 2nd must be completed before you can register for classes. You may want to review modules more than once in order to have a more complete understanding of the material.

When you pass the quiz at the end, you will be emailed a PIN for class registration. PINs will not be emailed until class registration opens for new students.

To access the PREP online modules and quiz:

  • use your App State username and password to log into AsULearn Projects.
  • select "Enroll Me" to self-enroll in the course.

3. Check App State email for Registration PIN

Once you pass the PREP quiz, within 15 minutes, you will receive a PIN number via your App State email that will allow you to register for classes. Make sure you select the correct term

4. Register for classes

Beginning May 2nd at 9 am, students who have completed PREP by passing the quiz at the end, can begin class registration. You must register for classes before you can sign up for an advising appointment.

Don't worry, you will have a chance to review and adjust your schedule when you meet with an advisor. However, you should attempt to complete as much of your schedule as possible prior to this meeting.

To be considered a full-time student you must register for at least 12 credit hours. Students are encouraged to take 15-17 credit hours each semester to stay on track for graduation.

5. Meet with an Academic Advisor

Once you have completed PREP and registered for classes, you will receive an email to schedule a required New Student Advising appointment*. New Student Advising appointments are conducted via Zoom and provide you an opportunity to review and adjust your class schedule as needed. Advising meetings will happen May 6 - June 30, 2024.

Please note it may take 1-2 days after you start class registration to receive your email to make your advising appointment.

*Check your App State email daily to sign up for your advising appointment as soon as you are invited.
